Budget hotel chain Treebo Hotels is planning to undertake a pan-India expansion operation, concentrating especially on the east. With 200 properties at present, the chain plans to increase its property count to 1,300 by the end of next calendar year.
Treebo currently has presence in Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Jamshedpur, and Kolkata and has an inventory of over 350 rooms across these cities. The brand is looking to expand its presence in other business and leisure destinations like Ranchi, Patna, Gangtok, Darjeeling, and Puri.
The firm currently has 20 properties in the east and is looking at having more than 70 properties in the region by the end of this calendar year.
Elaborating on why the region is important for the chain, co-founder Sidharth Gupta said, “Treebo is targeting the North East as their key market for business and leisure travellers travel ling to the east, because the east for now is our hig hest productive circuit where occupancy is never below 80%.
Kolkata, however, takes the lead amongst the four cities we are pre sent in. “Targeting business travellers and pilgrims, Gupta said that the region is also attracting tourists, with the government promoting tourism in the North Eastern states.
“While close to 70% of the inventory in our country falls in the budget segment, most of it also falls in the unbranded and unorganized sector. We are trying to provide branded options to travellers who look for quality at a budget, to suit their pocket. The expansions will thus widen the scope of branded budget rooms in the country,” Gupta added.
The brand that has 7,000 keys across 52 cities plans expansion in not just metros, but also across Tier II and Tier III cities to reach the property count of 1,300.
Treebo plans to concentrate more on social media marketing, while continuing to work closely with Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) as and when they expand in the next two years.
